The Red Devils are in the hunt for a new midfielder and Fofana has emerged as a target.
Manchester United have reportedly failed with a loan move for Youssouf Fofana
Fofana, 24, has impressed at Monaco and was linked with moves to West Ham and Nottingham Forest earlier in the season.
However United have now failed with a loan approach for the French international, according to GFFN.
The report also claims that Serie A outfit Inter Milan have seen a loan offer rejected.
Fofana has had an interesting rise to the top of football as a fully-fledged France star.
When he was just 15, Fofana found himself without a club having been a part of the famed Clairefontaine academy in his homeland.
While other talents such as Moussa Diaby were snapped up by PSG, Fofana started working as a pizza delivery boy.
Three years after leaving the academy, Fofana joined Strasbourg where he showed that he could become a top footballer.
Man United are have been trying to sign a new midfielder for the last month.
However, they have seen their attempts fail as another target, Sofyan Amrabat, is also still at his current club Fiorentina.
United have not been hiding the cash this summer having forked out for Mason Mount from Chelsea, Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana and striker Rasmus Hojlund.
The club's total spend during the transfer window is roughly £163million.
