Arsenal to launch bid for Man City defender Laporte

Arsenal are set to step up interest in Manchester City defender Aymeric Laporte.

Laporte is ready to leave City this month and has been linked with a reunion with his old coach Mikel Arteta at Arsenal.

The Gunners are now set to intensify their interest with concerns over the seriousness of Jurrien Timber's knee injury.

Forced off during victory over Nottingham Forest on Saturday, there's fears that the Holland defender has damaged his ACL.

With Timber facing months out, Arsenal are ready to return to the market for a replacement and Laporte features high on Arteta's shortlist.

Laporte came off the bench in Man City's Premier League opener as they beat Burnley 3-0 at Turf Moor on Friday.
