Manchester United's 'cheeseless panini' has been described as 'scrandalous' by football fans after it went viral on social media.

The Red Devils were back in action on Saturday afternoon as they welcomed French side RC Lens to Old Trafford one week before the new Premier League season kicks off. And one fan decided to treat themselves to a cheese panini - for £3.50.

However, there was just one problem, the panini was just a roll of bread, with the faintest hint of cheese inside. Fans were quick to respond to the 'so so scrandalous' snack online - apologies to Alesha Dixon and Mis-Teeq - as it went viral on the famous FootyScrans Twitter account.

"Man them Hojlund and Onana fees hit them hard," one fan joked after seeing the image. And a second added: "Deserved for funding the Glazers. Hopefully, they keep taking the p*** out of these idiots. Don't even blame them anymore!"

A third slammed the Red Devils' food offering, stating: "Old Trafford scran is honestly dreadful, overpriced and rank never bought food when I used to go..."

"Must be because the Glazers keep taking all the cheddar out the club," a fourth said. And another added: "It took me fully like two minutes to realise that it wasn’t plain bread..."

United's afternoon was set to be the perfect preparation for the new season, with their latest hero Rasmus Hojlund being unveiled to the Old Trafford faithful ahead of kick-off. However, there was a spanner in the works when new goalkeeper Andre Onana was lobbed from the halfway line - to the delight of rival fans.

Some hairdryer treatment from Erik ten Hag seemed to work as United kicked into gear in the second period - eventually running out 3-1 winners.
