Chelsea agree six-year contract extension with center-back prodigy Levi Colwill

Amid another season of expectation surrounding Premier League giants Chelsea after the Blues have dipped their toes in the deep end of the summer transfer pool, the capital side continues to focus on what is to come at Stamford Bridge after securing the long-term future of center-back prodigy Levi Colwill.

Per reports from The Athletic's David Ornstein, the Blues have agreed to a six-year contract extension with the 20-year-old Southampton-born starlet, who is coming into the 2023-24 Premier League campaign on the back of being a key factor in England's recent triumph at the U21 European Championship in Romania and Georgia, where he also featured in the team of the tournament.

According to Ornstein, though the deal has not officially been signed by Colwill, it is presumed that it will undoubtedly be accepted as Colwill looks primed to be given a "massive role" for both Chelsea and England in the immediate future.

CBS Sports Ben Jacobs corroborated the new deal while offering further insight into how Colwill is viewed in West London, stating that not only was Colwill permanently viewed as untouchable this summer, but Pochettino had directly stated to him that he viewed the starlet "as one of the greatest center-backs in England."

On the back of terms being struck with the player, any potential future that would see him depart for Brighton has now well and truly been put to bed despite the Seagulls playing a key role in his rapid rise in the English footballing landscape during the 2022-23 season under Roberto De Zerbi.

This comes in the wake of Chelsea agreeing in principle to sign AS Monaco defender Axel Disasi in a £38m pound deal that will give Pochettino a young center-back core comprising of the aforementioned Colwill (20) and Disasi (25), as well as Benoît Badiashile (22) and Wesley Fofana (22), with Cobham Academy product Trevoh Chalobah (24) still in the senior ranks despite questions surrounding his future.
