Liverpool midfielder Jones: Milner exit a big loss

Curtis Jones says James Milner's departure is a "big loss" for Liverpool.
The veteran left earlier this summer for Brighton.
"Millie will be a big loss in terms of his character around the place," Jones told the Liverpool Echo. "It's not just how much he talks and shouts and stuff, it's more the respect he is given because of what he's done in his career. But there are lads in the squad who have stepped up well. You look at Virg, Mo, Robbo, I'd even say Trent has stepped up well. You can hear them in training. We've lost one, but we've gained four, five or six who know it's on them to play that role now."
Asked if he was also going to step up, Jones adds: "I'm one of them - I'm a character myself! I've always had a voice. It's not that the senior players are always telling the younger ones - the senior players have always said if they get things wrong, they want the younger players getting on to them as well. A team is a team, and that's what's good about our team - there's nobody who thinks it's all about them.
"But there will probably be a point where I step up in a similar way - there has to be. There are leaders in different ways. There are those who will be more vocal and express how they want the best for the team by how they talk, but then there are ones who are in the gym every day and set standards by how hard they train and their attitude and application.
"I think I have mix of both, but right now I'm not quite as much out there as the likes of the older lads. I play my part, but not as much as the 'senior' senior lads."
