Erik ten Hag's transfer plans for Man Utd could be aided by a former Liverpool flop
Manchester United are reportedly edging closer to securing the signing of Sofyan Amrabat from Fiorentina, as a move for former Liverpool midfielder Arthur Melo opens the door for the Red Devils to strengthen their midfield options.
United have already completed deals for Mason Mount, Andre Onana, and Jonny Evans, but are still looking to bolster their squad for the upcoming season.
Amrabat, a Moroccan World Cup star, has been on United's radar for some time, and with Fiorentina willing to let him leave for a fee of £26m, negotiations between the two clubs are said to be intensifying. However, United's restricted budget due to Financial Fair Play concerns and the ongoing takeover process could pose challenges in securing the deal.
The arrival of Amrabat would provide United with much-needed midfield reinforcements. With the departure of Fred and Scott McTominay potentially on the cards, the 26-year-old would add valuable depth and quality to Erik ten Hag's options in the position.
Meanwhile, Fiorentina's pursuit of Melo from Juventus is gathering momentum, with the Brazilian midfielder close to joining the Serie A club, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano (via the Express). Melo spent last season on loan at Anfield but struggled with injuries, leading Liverpool to explore other options.
The Reds have already secured the signings of Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai to strengthen their midfield.
Melo's switch to Fiorentina could pave the way for United to make their move for Amrabat. Amrabat has impressed on the international stage and has shown his ability to perform at the highest level.

While United's bid for Amrabat is yet to be confirmed, the potential interest from West Ham in McTominay as a replacement for Declan Rice could provide the necessary funds for the Red Devils to secure the Morocco midfielder.
