Chelsea boss Pochettino confirms plans to contact Dele Alli

This, however, does not come with a view to any potential move to Stamford Bridge for the Englishman.

Instead, Pochettino is seemingly keen to check in on Alli, in a bid to aid his faltering career.

Once widely regarded as one of the finest up-and-coming talents in England for some time, the subject of midfielder Alli's fall from grace has of course been discussed ad nauseam over the course of the last couple of years.

This comes after the now-27-year-old, it would appear, allowed his surge to the top to get to his head, culminating in his Tottenham career going off the rails.

A move to Premier League rivals Everton followed, before Alli was shipped off on loan to Turkish giants Besiktas.

After things failed to work out in Istanbul, either, though, the 37-time capped international is primed for a return to Goodison Park, with his future, as things stand, looking bleak.

And, as alluded to above, one individual who is altogether keen to get to the bottom of the exact reasoning behind Alli's downward spiral comes in the form of the aforementioned Pochettino.

The former enjoyed some of the finest form of his career to date under the watch of the Argentine whilst at Spurs, with 'Poch' evidently still in possession of a soft spot for his one-time star performer.

In turn, speaking to the media this weekend, Chelsea's new head coach confirmed his intention to reach out to Alli, to 'see what is going on':

"I hope to have some time to call and see because he is a great guy and I want to talk a bit with him. I want to help him and see what is going on."
