Mason Mount may be watching his Man Utd move go up in smoke
Manchester United have reportedly turned their attention away from Mason Mount and to alternative midfield options topped by Moises Caicedo.
The Red Devils have been deep in negotiations with Chelsea over England international Mount, 24, who has just a year left on his current contract at Stamford Bridge.
Their second bid worth up to £55million was knocked back earlier this week, with the Blues holding out for in excess of £60m - which United deem to be too much.
The two parties have now reached a stalemate, according to The Times, and United are moving on to focus on other business. That includes readying a bid for Brighton's 21-year-old sensation Caicedo.
He's next on their list of targets in the middle of the park, but is believed to have a price tag of £80m. That's a fee Old Trafford chiefs deem worth paying, however, given his deal runs until 2027 with the option of an extra year.
It's claimed United will also step up their attempts to sign a new centre forward, which is the priority for Erik ten Hag in the summer transfer window given he only has the injury-prone Anthony Martial currently at his disposal.

Atalanta's Rasmus Hojlund has emerged as the top target in that department, with Eintracht Frankfurt's Randal Kolo Muani under consideration too. Ajax attacker Mohammed Kudus is also a potential option.
There's said to be sympathy at United for Mount, who had made it clear he wanted the move to Manchester and had agreed personal terms with the club.
They've left the £55m offer on the table and the door open to further talks if Chelsea are willing to compromise on their demands, a stance which Ten Hag is happy with despite his fondness of Mount.
