Trent Alexander-Arnold has come under fire again

Liverpool fans have urged Jurgen Klopp to invest in a new full-back, with Trent Alexander-Arnold coming under fire again.

The Reds had raced into a two-goal lead - and Alexander-Arnold was instrumental going forwards, taking the Southampton midfield out of the game with a lovely pass. However, his defensive capabilities were on full display as the hosts battled back into the game.

The Saints came back from two goals down in the first half, and some poor defending from Alexander-Arnold led to the equaliser. Liverpool fans pulled no punches on social media, as they fumed at the Englishman's defending for the goal.

One fan fumed: "Terrible defending. What a move from Southampton. Trent clueless defending, Matip & Gomez are not much better too!"

"Trent shouldn't be anywhere near right-back, move him to midfield and buy a proper right-back who can also do that inverted role and have Trent as out-and-out CM," a second added. While a third tweeted: "Hopefully this proves we need a new right back to Klopp!"

"We need to buy a new right back and free Trent to play the right side of midfield," a fourth said. And another added: "Trent's back post defending is still a massive issue! He hasn't got a clue positionally."

Klopp has played Alexander-Arnold as an inverted full-back in recent games, with the Englishman pushing more-and-more into midfield.

Speaking about his new role earlier his month, Klopp said: "I think so. Long term, we will see what we can do

"It depends on the new players we bring in and who can play in different positions, that's clear, but it suits him extremely well. I think the chance he set up for Darwin was, again, a very, very special ball to play there [and] he's, defensively, extremely strong."
