James Milner has revealed that Jurgen Klopp wanted him to stay at Anfield but the club had other ideas.

"It would be a shame to stop when you've still got a bit of life in you," Milner told LFC TV.

"Jurgen Klopp is a pretty good manager and the fact he still wanted me here and said I can do a job is pleasing. I haven't started a load of games this year, but I feel like I have contributed when I have been asked to.

"The club obviously made their decision on that. It's nice I'm in a position where the manager wanted me to stay, but it got to the point where I got to terms [with leaving]."

He will play his final game in Liverpool colours against Southampton this weekend.

Martinez vows to bring Messi to Aston Villa

Emiliano Martinez has claimed that he would like to see Lionel Messi join him at Aston Villa with the goalkeeper prepared to lower his salary in order to make a sensational deal possible.

“If Leo is whistled, I would bring him to Aston Villa. I will bait him with mate, I will make roasts for him every weekend, I ask people to make little flags for him and he has a good time. I will cut my salary for Messi if necessary," he stated to ESPN.
