Tottenham have decided to end their pursuit of former Bayern Munich coach Julian Nagelsmann following weeks of reports claiming the German was the front-runner for the job

Julian Nagelsmann is out of the running to become Tottenham's next manager, leaving fans devastated.

The ex-Bayern Munich boss appeared to have been leading the race following Chelsea's decision to pursue Mauricio Pochettino, and Tottenham supporters were excited when reports claimed he and chairman Daniel Levy were in talks earlier this month.

But it's understood the German is no longer being considered by the club, and that talks between and he and Levy never took actually took place.

The news went down like a lead balloon among Spurs fans on social media, with one tweeting: "I hate this club with a passion," before adding: "This is ending with Ryan Mason in charge, isn't it?"

Another said: "One of the top young up and coming manager who was good enough to manage Bayern but not good enough to be considered by Spurs. Make it make sense." A third commented: "We are a joke of a club. He was the best out there and we've fumbled it."

Another fan fumed: "Typical Spurs no ambition. Because it would cost MONEY to back him and get a DOF [director of football] and they would rather do the bare minimum to get top four than any ambition for a trophy."

Tottenham still have plenty of options available, with the likes of Sporting boss Ruben Amorim, Bayer Leverkusen's Xabi Alonso and Feyenoord manager Arne Slot all still in the running, but the club will be keen to settle on a name soon to avoid a repeat of their endless managerial search in 2021, which lasted a painful 74 days.

Spurs have been without a head coach since Antonio Conte's acrimonious departure in March. The Italian was initially replaced by his assistant Cristian Stellini, though he was given the boot after less than a month at the helm following a humiliating 6-1 defeat to Newcastle, with Ryan Mason taking charge of the team until the end of the season.
