BREAKING | Tottenham sack Cristian Stellini in wake of heavy Newcastle United defeat

The situation at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium has gone from bad to worse once again across the 2022-23 Premier League season as Spurs have now parted ways with interim boss Cristian Stellini per multiple reports.

In a statement to the club's supporters, chairman Daniel Levy took full responsibility for the current situation at Tottenham after removing Stellini from his position of power; "Sunday's performance against Newcastle was wholly unacceptable. It was devastating to see. We can look at many reasons why it happened and whilst myself, the Board, the coaches, and players must all take collective responsibility, ultimately the responsibility is mine."

Antonio Conte's former assistant was set to remain in the Spurs technical area for the remainder of the season, but Tottenham has seen fit to part ways with the 48-year-old long-time assistant manager after the club suffered a massive 6-1 defeat against fellow Champions League-chasers Newcastle United at St. James' Park.

Stellini managed just one win in four since he took over after Conte's departure from the English capital, starting his temporary reign with a disappointing 1-1 draw against Everton and then a lucky 2-1 win over Brighton that saw the club receive a massive boost from multiple incorrect decisions by VAR.

Tottenham since then lost their last two league fixtures; a shock 3-2 home defeat against relegation-candidates Bournemouth before being trounced by Eddie Howe's Magpies yesterday in a result that now sees them six points adrift of the top four, with both Newcastle United and Manchester United owning matches in hand.

Aston Villa is also breathing down the club's neck after their revitalization efforts under Unai Emery, with Villa just two points back and in a richer vein of form of late.

Former Tottenham midfielder Ryan Mason is set to take charge in place of Stellini for the remainder of the season as the club looks to find the next man to take full charge of the club, with links to Julian Nagelsmann, Vincent Kompany, and Luis Enrique all on the club's shortlist at the time of writing.
