Manchester United have firmly decided to sign Harry Kane from Tottenham this summer, according to reports. The England international would be a world-class acquisition for Erik ten Hag as he looks to challenge for the Premier League title next season. And the Spurs marksman could even arrive as a replacement for Mason Greenwood, who is wanted by AC Milan.

Manchester United have failed to sign a single player from Tottenham since Sir Alex Ferguson riled Daniel Levy with a deal for Dimitar Berbatov back in 2008.

But Relevo claim the Red Devils have firmly decided to pursue Kane this summer in the hope he'll move to Old Trafford.

The Tottenham star has bagged 25 goals across all competitions this season, while also clocking up four assists.

And that's despite Spurs enduring another shambolic season, with the north London giants currently scrambling to appoint a new manager for next season.

Tottenham were furious when Berbatov moved to Manchester nearly 15 years ago, having initially planned to sell him to Manchester City.

As a result, United could face some issues when it comes to getting a deal for Kane over the line.

Tottenham have refused to let four players move to Old Trafford in the years since Berbatov crossed the divide.

Ferguson wanted to bring Luka Modric to the club in 2011, identifying the Croatia international as a potential long-term replacement for Paul Scholes.

Yet he ended up missing out, with Tottenham choosing to flog the midfielder to Real Madrid the following year.

It was a similar story with David Moyes and Gareth Bale in 2013, too.

Moyes wanted the Welshman to spearhead his era at Old Trafford and United actually lodged a massive bid believed to be around the £125million mark.

Tottenham sold Bale to Real Madrid for £80m instead, however, due to their reluctance to do business with a direct rival.

Jose Mourinho pursued Eric Dier to no avail in 2017, with Nemanja Matic arriving as an alternative.

And the Portuguese was unfortunate to miss out on Toby Alderweireld the following year, having identified the Belgian as a target.

The report says United are eyeing Kane at a time when Greenwood could potentially leave to play abroad.

The forward hasn't featured for the Red Devils since a 1-0 win over West Ham in January last year.

And AC Milan are considering a move for the 21-year-old amid uncertainty over his Old Trafford future.

Speaking earlier this season, meanwhile, former United and Tottenham star Teddy Sheringham called on the Red Devils to ‘break the bank' for Kane.

"They've not really got a proper centre-forward, have they?" he said.

"Ten Hag has got one of the hardest jobs in world football at the moment.

"He's come in at United and is trying to get them all rowing in the same direction, but without a recognised centre-forward up there leading the line and scoring the goals I think he'll find it difficult."

He added: "If they're going to go out and break the bank for someone, go out and get Harry Kane.

"He's the type of centre-forward they lack, a proper professional, he leads the line and you'll always get 100 per cent out of him.

"He's a proper player, so go break the bank for him. I know that's going to upset the Tottenham fans but we're talking about Manchester United, one of the biggest clubs in the world.

"They should be doing this sort of thing instead of spending money on players who only might do the job for you."
