Premier League clubs including Manchester City reportedly want to close a little-known loophole affecting loan transfers.

City, like many top clubs, regularly send players out on loan to aid their development with a view to either putting them in the first team or selling them on for a decent fee. There are also obvious benefits to EFL clubs who are able to field some of the brightest young talents in the country, often for an entire season. Competition among clubs outside the top-flight to sign rising stars is fierce.

And, at present, there is an added benefit to the arrangement, with loan clubs entitled to 'training compensation' payments if the player is sold on by the parent club.

According to The Sun, that is 'annoying' the likes of Man City, who feel they do favours by letting their best young talent out on loan and do not think they should lose money on later sales.

It's claimed the top-flight sides in question are hoping to close that loophole and ask clubs to sign waivers which would see them give up their 'rights' to future payments before they are sent out on loan.

City have a number of youngsters out on loan, including two at Championship promotion hopefuls Sheffield United, Tommy Doyle and James McAtee. City prospect Taylor Harwood-Bellis has spent the season with Burnley, helping Vincent Kompany's side secure automatic promotion with seven games to spare.

Elsewhere, prolific striker Folarin Balogun is on loan at Reims from Arsenal, who also allowed Charlie Patino and Brooke Norton-Cuffy to join Blackpool and Coventry City. Chelsea youngsters out on loan include Ethan Ampadu at Spezia in Italy, Levi Colwill at Brighton and Iaan Maatsen at Burnley.
