Ana Maria Markovic - who has been dubbed as the 'world's most beautiful footballer' - has wowed fans while posing with her two "new best friends".

The Croatian international is currently facing a prolonged spell on the sidelines having suffered a horror injury earlier this month. However, Markovic hasn't lost her smile as she was snapped with her crutches - her new "best friends" - at a recent clash.

"You're so cute, get well soon Ana," one fan responded in the comments. While a second added: "The second picture is awesome! Quick recovery," with a number of heart and laughing emojis.

Markovic had shared the devastating news of her injury on social media, and the blonde bombshell said: "I don't know where to start... Unfortunately, I got injured at the last game and will now have to say goodbye to football for a long time.

"It hurts so much and still can not believe it.

"All who know me, know that I have a very strong personality and that I will come back even stronger... thank you all for the support…that I will need the next few months even more!"

The 23-year-old has already been snapped with her crutches - when she shared a pic leaving hospital with the caption: "Goodbye hospital, now rehab time."

Markovic had been playing for Grasshopper against former club Zurich when she hit the turf before getting immediate attention from club physios. However, it has not been confirmed what injury Markovic has suffered.

Instead, the 23-year-old has suggested she will be away from the game for a "long time".

Markovic has earned fame during her career thanks to her footballing ability, and her good looks - however, the Croatian has been keen to shake the "sexy" tag.

She said in a previous interview with 20 Minuten: "I like articles that call me the most beautiful footballer - or one of the most beautiful - because it makes me happy to hear that I'm beautiful.

"But then there are articles describing me as the 'sexiest' player in football. That doesn't sit well with me. Also, because of my family."
