Manchester United told price for David de Gea replacement ahead of potential summer move

Manchester United have been warned that they will have to activate Diogo Costa’s 75m euro release clause should they wish to land the Portuguese shot-stopper from FC Porto this summer.

The Red Devils are expected to be in the market for a new goalkeeper this summer, with Jack Butland only on loan and set to leave at the end of the season.

David De Gea is expected to stay at the club beyond this summer, but may no longer be first choice shot-stopper under Erik ten Hag, with his inability to play with the ball at his feet a constant feature of Manchester United’s play despite their good form in recent months.

The Spaniard himself has been clear on his stance, despite his contract running out in 6 months time.

“I’m relaxed, for sure it’s going to end in a good way”, the shot-stopper told the Manchester Evening News.

“I hope to finish my career at Man United. I was saying this is my club, it’s a huge honour to be here and I’m so happy here”, the Spaniard added.

There have been several names linked with what could soon be the vacant no.1 spot at Old Trafford, with Premier League pair Jordan Pickford and David Raya both attracting attention, though they will have to fight off both Chelsea and Spurs should they wish to land either player.

And another name that has been floated around Old Trafford for the past 12 months has been that of youngster Costa, who started in goal for Portugal during the World Cup.

So far, the 23-year-old has managed 10 clean sheets in 20 Portuguese top-flight games, and has also racked up 11 caps for his country, while he is considered one of the most talented young goalkeepers in world football.

However, according to Portuguese reports, the club will have to trigger Costa’s 75m euro release clause should they wish to land him this summer, which could come as a massive blow to the Red Devils. As it stands, they are looking to spread their wealth among several positions, with right-back, central midfield and striker all on the wishlist this summer, and thus spending such a large amount on a goalkeeper may be beyond their means.
