Liverpool’s form has fallen off a cliff in 2022/23. The Reds sit 10th in the league after 20 games and are very unlikely to secure a top-four spot.
One of Liverpool’s main issues this term has been their defence. Trent Alexander-Arnold has been in especially bad form, whilst the Reds as a squad are leaking goals – including three to a Wolves side who had scored just 12 in 20 before their recent meeting with Liverpool.
Liverpool have shipped 28 goals in 2022/23 so far, which is already more than they let in during the entirety of 2021/22 (26).
This has led to speculation over the future of Jurgen Klopp, who also saw his Borussia Dortmund stint collapse around this time as well.
Now though, The Times are reporting that Liverpool are ready to fight back after a dismal season by funding Jurgen Klopp to rebuild his squad in the summer and by hiring a new head of research
Liverpool are close to naming a successor to Dr Ian Graham, who built the renowned data science department, and whose work informed a number of the club’s transfer coups since he joined the club in 2012. These included the signing of Mohamed Salah from Roma for £34m, Sadio Mane from Southampton for £36m and Andy Robertson for £8m from Hull.
