Real Madrid star Toni Kroos has, on Saturday evening, provided a fresh insight into his future with the club.
This comes after the German international played a central role, en route to Real securing their latest piece of silverware.
After booking a spot in the showpiece clash courtesy of a comfortable downing of Al Ahly in midweek, Carlo Ancelotti’s troops put five past Saudi giants Al-Hilal, to reclaim their status as Club World Cup champions.
Kroos, for his part, featured from the off, pulling the strings from the middle of the park alongside Luka Modric and Eduardo Camavinga.
And yet, post-match, it was not the subject of the latest addition to his silverware collection which took centre stage in the 33-year-old’s exchange with the media.
Instead, this came in the form of a conversation surrounding his future.
For those not aware, Kroos’ current terms in Madrid are due to come to an end this summer, as the iconic midfielder continues to give serious consideration to hanging up his boots.
The powers that be at the Bernabeu, though, remain dead set on convincing Kroos to delay his retirement for another year.
Contract negotiations, in turn, have long been underway between the two parties, with the German having provided the following update on the situation on Saturday night:
“Yes, I’m thinking about what to do next season, I’m in contact with the club. My experience tells me that the best thing is to talk about things inside. If there is something official, you will know for sure. There is There are many factors. You have to be honest. The decision won’t take long. At the moment there is no decision, but we are calm because neither party will do nonsense. I am very calm.”
