The maximum amount of wages Greenwood would receive in China has been revealed to be £2.7m a year
The maximum salary Mason Greenwood could receive in China if he moves from Manchester United has been revealed.
Greenwood is reportedly mulling a move to the Far East in a bid to salvage his career following his recent legal battle. The 21-year-old was initially arrested for attempted rape, assault and coercive control, but the charges were dropped.
But despite being in the clear, the striker's future at United is up in the air as the club carries out an internal investigation into the allegations while he remains suspended, and the team's staff are reportedly divided about his return to Old Trafford.
This has led Greenwood to begin exploring his options which reportedly include a move to China's Super League. And if he heads overseas, the forward is looking at an annual salary of up to £2.7million, which works out to around £50,000 a week for the season, The Sun report.
The amount is the maximum that a foreign player is allowed to receive following the salary cap introduced by the Chinese FA in March last year. If Greenwood moves to China, it would see him earn less than the reported £75,000 he earns weekly at United, but he's believed to be willing to swap minutes for money to keep playing.
A source told the Sun whilst admitting the striker wasn't happy about the internal investigation: "He said he would be happy to go and play in China as long as that meant he was getting paid well and was playing.
"His view may have softened over the last few months, but he was not happy at all." Greenwood will be in good company if he moves to the Far East where a slew of ex-Premier League players including former Chelsea ace Oscar and ex-Manchester United star Marouane Fellaini currently ply their trade in exchange for big bucks.
