Former Barcelona right-back Dani Alves remains in prison after he was arrested on grounds of sexual assault last month.

Alves is accused of sexually assaulting a woman at the Barcelona nightclub Swanky in the early hours of December 31. Alves initially denied the allegations, adding that he was at the club - before claiming they had consensual sex.

And with Alves' request for bail unlikely to be accepted, he could find himself in a difficult financial position. The Brazilian could find himself having to pay over £6million as a result of the incident.

According to UOL Esporte, UNAM Pumas are trying to claim damages for breach of contract.

The Mexican side, who Alves joined in the summer, are looking for €4.5million (£4.04million) in compensation from the Brazilian. And a new report has revealed that the 39-year-old owes €2.25m (£2.02million) to the Treasury having accumulated millionaires debts.

If Alves has to pay both of those sums, it will accumulate to over £6million in debts.

Pumas decided to terminate his contract after his arrest last month.

In a short statement, the Mexican club said: "With this decision, the club reiterates its commitment not to tolerate acts by any member of the institution that violate the university spirit and values."
