But he still found time to pose for a snap with Wazza’s eldest child, who looked delighted to be in Rashford’s presence.

Kai was decked out in a full United training kit as Rashford showed off his own remarkable fashion sense.

The young Rooney, 13, posted the snap on his Instagram page along with the caption: "Legend. @marcusrashford."

Wayne is back in the USA for the start of pre-season training as boss of MLS side DC United.

But he thanked his former Old Trafford team-mate on his own social media.

Son Kai is currently in United’s academy and starring just like his old man.

He made headlines last year when he ended the season with an incredible record of 56 goals and 28 assists.

But Kai has some way to go to match his dad’s record, with Rooney netted 253 goals during a 13-year spell at Old Trafford.

Indeed, now-DC United boss Rooney was Rashford’s inspiration when the England star was coming through the Carrington ranks.

Speaking exclusively to SunSport after his United breakthrough in 2016, Rashford said: “I’ll be very happy indeed if I have the same career as him (Rooney).

“When I look at his career he has won everything for his club.”

Rashford is certainly reaping the rewards this term, with 18 goals in 30 games so far.

Although the title looks out of sight, Rashford is hoping to fire United to glory in the FA Cup and Europa League.

Reflecting on his form, boss Erik ten Hag said: “Every player has to make his own confidence. He fought for this, he invested in this.

“Of course, with my coaching staff, we bring in structures, especially in the way of play, that give him routines  he needs to get into the right position.

“But finally, it’s up to him, to the player, and when the player has the confidence then I’m convinced.

“The way of play is most important but the environment and  culture are also important, then the player can perform at his best.

“It’s obvious that Marcus at this moment is in really good shape, really good form.”
