Gareth Bale’s loving wife Emma Rhys-Jones could soon be free from the limelight, now the Wales captain is hanging up his boots.

At the age of 33-years-old, Bale announced his retirement from the beautiful game. The Real Madrid legend departs football with five Champions League titles, three La Liga titles, the Spanish Cup and having scored 40 goals in 111 appearances for Wales.

While the football world will be sad to see the mercurial Welshman depart the sport, his wife Rhys-Jones may be somewhat relieved.

Rhys-Jones and Bale are childhood sweethearts who have been with each other since the early 2000s. But despite the intrinsic glamour, fame, and riches that came with Bale’s football career, she is known for her grounded approach and personality.

When the couple married in 2019, the wedding was a very subdued and private affair. According to Wfoot.com, there were only 60 guests invited to their wedding and those guests were given as little as 24 hours of notice.

It was also reported the couple wanted all guests to hand their phones to security guards before they came in, in what can be assumed to be a precautionary measure to prevent photos of their special day leaking out. She is known for her desire to keep things as quiet and private as possible.

Rhys-Jones is not on any social media pages and there are very few pictures of her on Bale’s Instagram page, which emphasises her preference of keeping things on the down low. Fortunately, their lives together may soon become a lot more quiet now Bale’s career is over.

While the Tottenham Hotspur hero announced his retirement in a lengthy statement on his social media pages, thanking his many teammates, managers, clubs and others, he dedicated a special section to Rhys Jones and their three children, Nava, Axel, and Alba.

"My wife and my children, your love and support has carried me through. Right beside me for all the highs and lows, keeping me grounded along the way. You inspire me to be better, and to make you proud. So, I move on with anticipation to the next stage of my life. A time of change and transition, an opportunity for a new adventure."
