Gareth Southgate's England future confirmed

The long-term plans of England national team head coach Gareth Southgate has, on Saturday, been confirmed.

The subject of Southgate's future, of course, has taken its place front and centre in the English media headlines once more over the course of the last week.

This comes on the back of the Three Lions' disappointing World Cup quarter-final exit.

After seeing both his selection decisions and in-game adjustments called into question once more, calls inevitably spread across the ever-demanding English fanbase for Southgate, in turn, to be moved on.

And, when drawn on the possibility of bringing his six-year stint at the helm of his home country to an end in the immediate aftermath of the Three Lions' World Cup exit at the hands of France, the 52-year-old hinted that as much was not out of the question, in explaining:

"I think after every tournament, we've sat and reviewed and that needs a little bit of time so everyone makes the right decisions."

Any and all who remained hopeful of Southgate's exit being confirmed over the coming weeks, or even months for that matter, though, have tonight been dealt a blow.

This comes owing to widespread confirmation that the former Middlesbrough boss in fact has no intention of departing his post any time soon.

As per Jason Burt of The Telegraph, Southgate has come to the decision to see out his current contract, the terms of which run through the conclusion of the European Championships, in 2024.

The tactician is expected to inform the FA of his plans before Christmas.
