They say to win a World Cup a team needs to come together … quite literally in Portugal's case.

The wife of Portugal goalkeeper Rui Patricio has given the squad some unorthodox advice which ought to help them all with their … ahem … finishing.

You see, Patricio's wife is steamy sexologist Vera Ribeiro, who has encouraged Cristiano Ronaldo and co. to masturbate prior to matches.

The sex-obsessed senorita, who boasts a degree in psychology and a masters in sexology, famously hit the headlines back in 2018 after ordering the Portugal squad to rub one out before games at the World Cup.

She insists that giving yourself a helping hand is one of the most effective stress relievers and that doing so just before taking to the pitch can seriously impact performance.

"The football player should not abstain from having sex before games, but we also know that in terms of routine they are not in contact with families either. We cannot associate sports performance with the occurrence of sex," she said previously on Portuguese TV.

She claimed in her 2018 book 'Manuel of Seduction' that the commonly-held belief that pre-game celibacy is a good thing is a load of tosh, insisting that "nothing positive can come from abstinence."

The 34-year-old, who has additionally taught sex education in schools across her homeland, has been known to actively encourage the people of her native Portugal to become more open sexually. She even shared some of her top tips in a 2021 edition of Portuguese magazine VIP.

These include utilising Halls cough sweets within oral sex, experimenting with electric toothbrushes and using water balloons in a wild manner. Tamer suggestions include making a movie, painting your partners body and eating items from areas of each other's anatomy.

Whether the Portugal team will actually benefit from Vera's advice remains to be seen. But one thing's for certain - Rui Patricio is a lucky boy.
