They say getting pooed on by a bird is good luck but judging by the look on his face, Luke Shaw doesn't care much for superstition.

Following in the footsteps of former Manchester United team-mate Ashley Young, who still denies that a bird pooed right into his gob during a game against Swansea in 2014 even though it clearly did (stop lying to yourself, Ashley, we all saw it), Shaw's evening was ruined when some faeces fell on his shoulder during an England team meal out in Qatar.

Mason Mount, who was sitting next to Shaw, whipped his phone to record the left-back's reaction, but Jack Grealish, who couldn't stop chuckling from across the table, stole the show instead.

"I'll launch this water bottle at them now, bro," Shaw joked as he scanned the tree above him looking for the culprit. Mount then zooms in on two little white birds perched on a branch above the table, with their bums aimed at Shaw's chair.

"Can you not see his b**** there," a giggling Grealish told Shaw, "they're right above you there."

Wisely, Shaw evacuated the vicinity, leaving Grealish, Mount and Bukayo Saka to revel in his messy misfortunes.

Mount uploaded the video to Instagram as part of a series of posts he aptly labelled "group stage dump". Included in the upload were photos of him and his England team-mates relaxing around their World Cup base, the Souq Al Wakra Hotel, over the past week-and-a-half.

England's 3-0 victory over Wales on Tuesday saw them top the group and secure a last-16 clash against Senegal on Saturday.

On this evidence there seems to be a really positive vibe in the camp, and if getting pooed on by a bird really is good luck then things are looking up for the Three Lions. And speaking of looking up, you better get used to doing that from now on Mr Shaw, because you never know whose arse is lurking above.
