Deal to buy Man Utd off Glazers 'likely to be done by spring' if owners decide to sell
The Glazers could be gone in the not too distant future

Manchester United could be under new ownership as early as spring, according to reports.

The highly unpopular Glazer family are exploring "strategic alternatives" for the club and have set a price tag of around £6billion. There's already been significant interest from around the world, with United's global marketability unrivalled.

And if they do decide to sell up for good, BBC Sport claim the Glazers' exit could be secured early next year ahead of the 2023/24 season. There's no timescale on the process, unlike Chelsea's complicated situation with Roman Abramovich earlier this year.

But if the right price is offered up, then it could be just as swift a process for United to change hands - which would be very well received by fans.

There's been repeated protests in relation to how the Glazers have run the club since they took over in 2005. They secured a £790m deal which was largely funded by debt.

It's estimated United are now £500million in the red having spent more than £1bn on interest and loan payments, as well as dividend payments - which have mostly gone to the Americans.

There's also been a major decline on the pitch since Sir Alex Ferguson's departure in 2013, with both factors combining to result in major discontent.

The current availability is said to be viewed as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to buy one of the world's most well-known sports clubs. Britain's richest man Sir Jim Ratcliffe is reportedly readying a bid in amongst a stacked amount of interested parties.
