The 23-year-old left the club for Portugal back in 2019, but his recent form has caught Spurs' eye.

Edwards initially joined Vitoria when he departed, before earning a move to Sporting last January.

And the forward has taken his game to another level in Lisbon, scoring 10 goals and bagging nine assists in 34 appearances.

Edwards particularly impressed in the two Champions League clashes with his former club in the recent group stage.

He almost scored an incredible solo goal in Sporting's 2-0 victory in September, only to be denied by Hugo Lloris.

Edwards did get his goal in the 1-1 draw at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last month.

Unfortunately for Edwards, his side's defeat against Frankfurt last week saw them drop into the Europa League.

Regardless, the flying winger could still be playing in Europe's elite competition after Christmas.

That's because Report claim that Tottenham are plotting a January switch and even sent scouts to watch him against Vitoria on Saturday.

And Edwards came up with the goods, directly contributing to all three goals in the 3-0 victory.

Edwards, who has £52m release clause, recently admitted that he wants to one day return to England.

He said: "It's home, so of course I want to come back there [to the Premier League] one day. I just focus on what I'm doing here for now."

And with Tottenham instering a 50 per cent sell-on fee when they sold Edwards, they could bring him back for a discount.
