Thomas Tuchel says he'd consider taking charge of a national team next amid speculation he's being lined up to replace England head coach Gareth Southgate.

The former Chelsea boss has been out of a job since he was brutally sacked by Blues owner Todd Boehly in September following a shaky start to the season, a decision he admits still hurts him.

There'll be no shortage of offers whenever he decides to return to the dugout, with Juventus, Real Madrid and even Liverpool getting linked with the German in recent weeks and with the World Cup around the corner there are bound to be a few international jobs going soon as well.

Given that Germany manager Hansi Flick has barely been in the job a year, England is probably the likeliest option for Tuchel, who recently admitted he'd be tempted by an international job.

"Yeah why not? I would I would," he told The Hindu Times. "I did not give too much thought to it until now. But I would consider if it is the right team and if it has the potential to win trophies like the World Cup and the Euros."

When asked about managing England specifically, Tuchel was understandably cagey, saying: "I see where you are going. But I think England has a good coach right now. The team is very strong and very talented … as for everything else, I will not comment."

Having been there for six years and with fan discontent on the rise, there's a growing sense that this tournament will be Southgate's last in the England hotseat, regardless of how well the Three Lions do in Qatar.

Tuchel would no doubt be a popular choice to replace him, especially with previous fan-favourite Graham Potter being taken off the market by Chelsea, though admittedly, few top coaches take the plunge into international management in their prime, making the move an unlikely one, in spite of Tuchel's comments.
