Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo has received another blow in his bid to find a new club in 2023 after being criticised by the president of Brazilian club Flamengo

Cristiano Ronaldo has been told he wouldn't start for Flamengo as his exit from Manchester United looms.

The 37-year-old forward has been strongly linked with a move away from Old Trafford in recent months, with United absent from the Champions League and his lack of consistent starts under Erik ten Hag. The Red Devils have yet to trigger the one-year extension clause in Ronaldo's contract, meaning he can currently sign a pre-contract agreement with a foreign club from January 1.

However, one club he will not be joining is seven-time Brazilian champions Flamengo, after their president launched a scathing verbal attack on Ronaldo.

Speaking on the Papo Reto podcast, via Record, Rodolfo Landim responded to rumours the club are after Ronaldo by saying: "I don't know where it came from, but they have a lot of creativity.

"First of all, I ask: For whose place? It's to be on the bench. From what I've read on the internet, I don't know if it's true or not, he would have been offered $242million [£215m] for a two-year contract. Divided by 24 months, that's about $10m a month.

'Talk about a value far above the entire salary sheet of Flamengo for Cristiano Ronaldo. To be Pedro or Gabigol's (Gabriel Barbosa) substitute? I can't… nobody here is going to go crazy things.

"The amateur time of managing, of thinking that in the future we'll pay the bills, that no longer exists. There is no possibility of taking a step that is not firm."

Flamengo recently won their third Copa Libertadores title and have a squad which includes notable names including David Luiz and Arturo Vidal.

Ronaldo has been criticised for his performances so far this season was even mocked by Real Sociedad's mascot during United's Europa League match in Spain on Thursday night.
