Cristiano Ronaldo offered fresh Man United January exit

Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo has been added to the winter wishlist of former employers Sporting CP, according to reports.

Portuguese icon Ronaldo, of course, was hotly tipped for an Old Trafford departure throughout the summer transfer window.

After seeing his attempts to engineer a move to one of the continent’s top sides fall flat, though, the 37-year-old was ultimately left with no choice but to stay put.

Ronaldo has since gone on to endure something of a nightmare opening to the new season, finding the net on just three occasions, having fallen heavily out of favour under the watch of new boss Erik ten Hag.

As alluded to above, though, if the latest speculation in the media is anything to go by, then the five-time Ballon d’Or winner could yet be on the move before the campaign is out.

This comes amid claims of fresh interest in his signature.

The info comes by way of Simon Mullock of The Mirror, who points towards one of Ronaldo’s former clubs as having set their sights on a reunion.

Sporting CP are understood to be readying a January assault to bring CR7 back to the club with which he started his career.

As part of a complex agreement, the Portuguese giants - still in with a real shot of booking their place in the knockout rounds of the Champions League - would agree to pay the bulk of Ronaldo’s wages.

Manchester United, meanwhile, would for their part be required to afford the club’s under-fire hitman a pay-off on a significant portion of his current wage packet.

It now remains to be seen whether such a compromise appeals to the powers that be at Old Trafford.
