Manchester United loanee Dean Henderson appeared to give Liverpool fans the middle finger after helping Nottingham Forest to a huge win at the City Ground.

Taiwo Awoniyi scored the only goal of the game just after half time, but it was Henderson who stole the headlines both during and after the match. The 25-year-old produced a string of brilliant stops to deny the Reds, including a wonder save in injury time to keep out Virgil van Dijk.

That sparked wild scenes at full time as Henderson jumped in amongst the Forest fans to celebrate. But BT Sport cameras also caught him appearing to give the middle finger to Liverpool fans while still out on the pitch.

The cameras showed Henderson pointing and smiling at the away end before lifting his hand and raising what looked like his middle finger towards them.

It didn't go unnoticed among supporters on social media, particularly those of a Manchester United persuasion - Henderson's parent club.

One person wrote: "Deano is United." Someone else said: "Build the f***ing statue." A third person commented with three cry laughing emojis and the words: "Top tier s***housery."

Another user wrote: "Okay all is forgiven give him a f***ing knighthood." As a fifth United fan chimed in with: "He deserves man of the match for his performance."

Even former Forest goalkeeper Brice Samba got in on the act, describing Henderson as a "VIP member of the s***house, writing: "Hooo my guy Dean is a VIP member of the s***house gotta love this."

Speaking after the game, Forest midfielder Ryan Yates revelled in Forest's "great performance." He said: "We needed that, a few weeks ago it was tough, five consecutive defeats.

"We had to go back to basics and get that team shape and slowly week by week we're getting points. We knew what the fixture meant to the fans and from minute one we wanted to put them on edge of their seats with a high energy game.

"It's been weeks of nearly being there and at the wrong end of a few things of our own making. We've put in a great performance today, it's three points but it's not enough. We need to be out of the bottom three."
