Rivals fans think Reece James is disguised as the "Loch Ness Monster" or "The Grinch" as he watched Chelsea from the stands.

The England defender is currently sidelined with a knee injury which is set to keep him out until December, meaning he will almost certainly miss the World Cup in Qatar. Despite his absence from the side, James was present in the stands at Stamford Bridge on Saturday night as he watched his team-mates face Manchester United.

He was also seen sporting a new bright green hairstyle, which has been a topic of discussion amongst fans on social media.

One fan jokingly tweeted: "Why does Reece James look like seaweed?" Meanwhile, another added: "Reece James got green hair for Halloween or something?"

A third confused fan also reacted to his haircut by writing: "Reece James cosplaying as a Minecraft creeper today whilst recovering from his injury."

One more supporter added: "Reece James looking like the Loch Ness Monster." Another also commented: "Reece James with that Grinch look."

This is not the first time this season that James' choice of vibrant hairstyle has caused a discussion amongst fans after he debuted another bright barnet for England last month.

Having sported a pink and white streak in his hair during the Three Lions' loss to Italy, James was compared to Lisa Simpson by fans on social media.

He is unlikely to feature for his nation again this year, with injury set to rule him out of the squad for the World Cup, which gets underway in Qatar next month.

James was forced off with a knee injury during the Blues' Champions League win away to AC Milan earlier this month and has since been ruled out until mid-December.

He has joined fellow right-back Kyle Walker in suffering an injury that could force him out of the tournament, after the Manchester City star was sidelined with a groin injury.

Their absence from Gareth Southgate's squad could see Liverpool defender Joe Gomez receive a recall after two years without a call-up.
