But Brady and Gisele are said to be heading to the divorce courts. So what fractured their domestic bliss? The answer might be Cristiano Ronaldo.

But now the legendary quarterback and the catwalk queen are reportedly heading for the divorce courts.

Insiders say they have both hired lawyers to carve up their estimated near-£600million fortune after 13 years of marriage.

With two kids, three mansions and the adulation of millions of fans, the US version of Posh and Becks were supposed to be the perfect power couple.

So what fractured the domestic bliss of 42-year-old Brazilian Gisele and NFL hero Tom?

The answer might be Cristiano Ronaldo.

Just hours after watching the 37-year-old Manchester United striker roll back the years by scoring a hat-trick at Old Trafford in March, Brady announced he was coming out of retirement.

That decision is said to have infuriated Gisele, who had wanted her husband to quit the sport for good and devote more time to his family.

In the summer she fled their Florida home for Costa Rica following what was described as an “epic row” over his sporting return.

They have been living apart for the past couple of months and there was no ring on her wedding finger this week.

The Victoria’s Secret beauty, who quit the catwalk seven years ago, made her preference clear following his decision to keep playing.

Gisele said: “This is a very violent sport, and I have my children and I would like him to be more present.

“I have definitely had those conversations with him.

‘I didn’t want to leave’

“But ultimately, I feel that everybody has to make a decision that works. He needs to follow his joy, too.”

The apparent end of their relationship is all the more surprising, given the very rocky start that the couple had to overcome.

Shortly after breaking up with long-time boyfriend Leonardo DiCaprio, the supermodel went on a blind date with Tom just before Christmas in 2006.

Gisele recalled: “I knew right away — the first time I saw him. We sat and talked for three hours. I had to go home for Christmas, but I didn’t want to leave.”

But just two and a half months later, it was revealed that Tom’s actress ex-girlfriend Bridget Moynahan was more than three months pregnant with his child.

“The news was everywhere,” said Gisele. “I felt my world had been turned upside down.”

I, Robot star Bridget gave birth to son Jack in August 2007, but Gisele and Tom found a way through the turmoil.

Jack, 15, grew close to his supermodel stepmum, who has described him as “a blessing in my life”.

Tom and Gisele’s decision to tie the knot early in 2009 at a private ceremony in Santa Monica, California, demonstrated their commitment to each other, as did the birth of their two children Benjamin, 12, and Vivian, nine.

She certainly wasn’t marrying Tom because she was a fan of American football.

Gisele once revealed: “I thought it was the most boring thing I’ve ever seen in my life.”

For Tom, though, gridiron is everything. A fan of the sport since he was little, the Californian has begun his 23rd professional season.

During that incredible career the number 12 has broken records for a quarterback, with 245 wins to his name and 630 passing touchdowns.

Last year, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers star won his seventh Super Bowl, earning himself the award for Most Valuable Player. Tickets for the game sold for up to £100,000.

But his wife was worried about the long-term effects of the game, which can cause brain damage.

Five years ago Gisele expressed concerns about Tom’s unusual decision to play on into his forties.

She commented: “He does have concussions. I don’t really think it’s a healthy thing for your body to go through, that kind of aggression.

“I’m planning on him being healthy and doing a lot of fun things when we’re one hundred, I hope.”

Around the same time, Tom admitted that the issue of hanging up his boots was a thorny one.

He said of Gisele: “She’ll always say to me, ‘Well, ten years ago, you told me it was only gonna be ten years. And now it’s ten years, and now you’re saying another, you know, five years.’”

Even though the season for American footballers is only 18 weeks, with just 17 games, the sport did have a major impact on his family life.

He confessed: “I haven’t had a Christmas in 23 years and I haven’t had a Thanksgiving in 23 years.

“I haven’t celebrated birthdays with people that I care about that are born from August to late January. And I’m not able to be at funerals and I’m not able to be at weddings.”

What also grated with Gisele is that she appears to spend more time looking after their children than him.

When the family upped sticks from Boston to live in Miami after he switched teams two years ago, she decided to home-school Benjamin and Vivian rather than have them “adapt” to a new school.

The quarterback had vowed to spend more time with the family because Gisele “wasn’t satisfied with our marriage”.

He told shock jock Howard Stern in 2020: “She felt like I would play football all season and she would take care of the house, and then all the sudden when the season would end, that I’d be like, ‘Great, let me get into all my other business activities. Let me get into my football training’. So I needed to make a change.”

Tom planned a career in sports commentary after announcing his retirement at the start of February — but his promise to call it quits lasted just 40 days.

Pained look

After scoring a hat-trick in Man Utd’s 3-2 victory over Spurs, Ronaldo asked Tom if he really was done with American football.

The athlete gave a pained look and didn’t answer the question.

A few hours later he posted on social media: “These past two months I’ve realised my place is still on the field and not in the stands. That time will come. But it’s not now. I love my teammates, and I love my supportive family. They make it all possible. Unfinished business.”

It perhaps helped that the Glazer family, who own both United and the Buccaneers, were in the hospitality suite with Tom when he was watching Ronaldo.

The playmaker’s time with Tampa had seen ticket sales skyrocket.

A biting rebuke by Gisele in Vogue in May hinted at what she thought about the U-turn.

She said: “His focus is on his career, mine is mostly on the kids.”

Three months later, Gisele left their Florida home and plans to build a sprawling eco-pad on Miami’s Indian Creek Island were put on hold. One source told the US celebrity gossip website Page Six: “I don’t think there will be any coming back now.

“They both have lawyers and are looking at what a split will entail, who gets what and what the finances will be.”

The pair are expected to agree to joint custody of their two children, but who gets what financially will be trickier to settle.

Gisele was the highest-paid model for five years until 2017 and is said to be worth £355million, while her husband’s fortune is estimated at £222million.

Tom certainly doesn’t need the pay cheque from his new playing contract.

The question will be whether the cheers from thousands of fans will be enough to fill the void left by the end of his marriage.
