A mural of Jurgen Klopp has been vandalised with blue paint
A Liverpool mural of Jurgen Klopp has been vandalised ahead of the Champions League group stage clash with Rangers.
Pictures and footage emerged on Tuesday morning of a new mural dedicated to Reds manager Klopp having been defaced with blue paint. The mural, based in Randolph Street, Liverpool, had been commissioned by BOSS Night and included a quote from the Beatles classic ‘I Feel Fine’.
It was just one of several incidents where street art was damaged ahead of the Champions League tie, including murals of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Jordan Henderson.
Furious Liverpool supporters took to Twitter to voice their outrage in the aftermath. But Rangers fans, who will travel in their thousands for the match at Anfield, poked fun at the incidents.
One Rangers supporter tweeted: “Never seen so many folk angry about a mural hahahah.” Another commented on a tweet demonstrating the damage: “Excellent content would view again.”
A third added: “the quote tweets,” along with several laughing face emojis while another wrote: “Lovely stuff.”
Police confirmed that an investigation has been launched and officers are working with Liverpool FC officials to check CCTV and identify possible suspects.
A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: "We can confirm we are investigating offensive graffiti in Anfield and three murals that were damaged in the area. The report of the offensive graffiti was received at around 9am today, Tuesday 4 October on Randolph Street prior to the Liverpool v Rangers FC game this evening.
"Merseyside Police will not tolerate any form of offensive graffiti or vandalism and is working to identify and bring to justice anyone found responsible for committing these crimes. Officers are liaising with Liverpool Football club to obtain CCTV footage and identify any possible suspects.”
