Lionel Messi ‘to snub PSG contract and leave on free transfer in summer'

Lionel Messi is set to leave PSG this summer as he plans to refuse any new contract offers with the Ligue 1 champions.

The Argentine superstar moved to the French capital in 2021 - after an emotional departure from boyhood side Barcelona. Messi had initially signed for two seasons with PSG, but after struggling last time out for the French giants, Messi could already be looking to move on next summer.

And with his contract up in the summer, Beteve in Spain via Miquel Blazquez is reporting Messi will snub and deals tabled. This would leave Messi a free agent for the second time, having left Barcelona when his contract expired in 2021.

Messi has grown into his new role at PSG this season, and after netting a sublime chip during the international break, Messi spoke of how he felt different this season.

The Argentine said: "I feel good, I feel different from last year. I knew it was going to be like this. I’m more comfortable with the club, the dressing room, my teammates, the game.

"I feel very good again, so I’m starting to enjoy it again."

Messi has been linked with a return to Barcelona since last season, but reports suggested that Messi wanted to honour his contract with PSG before heading back to Catalonia.

Barcelona had to let their star go due to financial constraints - and while Barca's financial woes haven't been fully resolved the Blaugranes were able to spent freely over the summer.
