Man Utd urged to rival Liverpool for second midfield signing after Jude Bellingham tussle

Manchester United and Liverpool may lock horns on two transfer deals.
Manchester United have been urged to battle rivals Liverpool for a second midfielder next summer in addition to Jude Bellingham. Both sides have been linked with a move for Borussia Dortmund’s England star next year, and Jurgen Klopp’s side are rumoured to be interested in another midfield signing but the Red Devils could yet gazump that possible deal.
As Liverpool scrambled to get a midfielder in the door towards the end of the transfer deadline, they were linked with a move for Brighton’s Moises Caicedo before agreeing a deal to take Arthur Melo in on loan from Juventus.
The Ecuadorian has been linked with a host of top teams following his strong start to the season, but played down any interest from Liverpool after he scored in the Seagulls’ 5-2 win over Leicester earlier this month. “I’m not thinking about any other club than Brighton. This is the club where I am now and I will give everything for this club and to keep doing well here.”

However former United winger Antonio Valencia has urged Erik ten Hag’s side to move for his compatriot ahead of the Reds. "Hopefully Moises Caicedo can go to a big team in England,” Valencia told La Radio Redonda. “He is a humble boy, he was born to be great and hopefully he can come to Manchester United."

Both United and Liverpool may face competition from Chelsea if they wish to sign the 20-year-old as he admitted he would struggle to turn down a possible reunion with his former boss Graham Potter. "It made me very sad now that he left for Chelsea, because he helped me a lot and I wanted to continue having him as a manager, but that’s football," Caicedo told Ole.
"I think they are one of the best teams in the world and nobody would turn down an offer from Chelsea or any other club like that. It’d be a dream to be in the best teams in the world and succeed there."

If both Liverpool and United lock horns in a bid to sign Caicedo, it could be their second transfer tussle as both sides have been linked with Bellingham. The Red Devils could have an advantage over their rivals in a potential pursuit however due to club chief John Murtough.
According to The Athletic, United have kept a close eye on Bellingham's development and put in extensive work to try and beat Dortmund to his signature three years ago. Murtough hosted the Bellingham family at Carrington and maintains a relationship with his father, Mark, to this day.
There has been a reported price tag set of £130million for Bellingham though, while Caicedo may not be much cheaper as Potter previously said a £42m bid for the Ecuador international would only be enough to pay for his boots.
