Kate Ferdinand has opened up on the tragic loss of her baby after her miscarriage over the summer as she visited the midwife at her 12-week scan - and was met with "awful" silence

Kate Ferdinand has told how she knew she’d lost her baby because of the midwife’s “awful” silence at her 12-week scan.

The wife of footie ace Rio Ferdinand, 43, said the pregnancy had felt different to when she was carrying son Cree, one.

But she thought it was because she was expecting a girl.

However she then discovered blood just before she underwent the procedure.

Kate said: "The minute I looked at the lady, she didn’t even have to say anything – I just looked at her face.

"In comparison to when I had Cree, the facial expression is very different – they’re happy saying, ‘Oh lovely, all’s OK’. And then the lady just didn’t say anything. It was just awful.

"I just burst into tears. She hadn’t even said anything and Rio was like, ‘Calm down’, and I was like, ‘I know, I know, I know’ and they said there’s no heartbeat."

Speaking on her Blended podcast Kate, 31, said the couple’s world was flipped "upside down" when she miscarried in July.

She added: "When the lady came in and said, ‘Which route do you want to go down?’ I did not know, honestly I was so in a complete blur."

Kate, stepmum to Rio’s children Lorenz, 16, Tate, 14, and Tia, 11, added: "We’d already videoed the kids so excited.

"We were going to get home that day and share the news.

"The things we were thinking about the day before compared to sitting there – it just flipped upside down."

She shared the news on Instagram and recalled that the last time she was in hospital was to have Cree.

She wrote: "So much to say, but somehow I can’t find the words. Absolutely devastated & heartbroken …but couldn’t be more grateful for the hugs I got from my big(er) babies coming through the door when we arrived home."

Kate gave birth to her son Cree in December 2020 following her marriage to Rio in September 2019 after meeting in January 2017 and confirming their romance mere months later.

Kate, who formerly appeared on TOWIE and famously dated Dan Edgar, fell head over heels for her partner and soon connected with the football ace.

The pair eventually moved in together and Kate was introduced to Rio's children with his late wife.
