MANCHESTER UNITED are reportedly set to continue their excessive spending when the January transfer window opens...

Manchester United will reportedly back Erik ten Hag with a January budget of £100million to continue improving his squad at Old Trafford. The Dutchman is now making strides in his attempts to drive the Red Devils back into the Champions League but there is still plenty of work to be done in order to achieve a top-four finish. Express Sport analyses four players the club could hypothetically target when the transfer window reopens - should the board be willing to back their new boss with additional recruits...

Right-back is the only area within United's squad where further reinforcements would certainly be welcomed.

Diogo Dalot has made the shirt his own but Aaron Wan-Bissaka's future remains unclear after West Ham and Crystal Palace tried to sign the player late in the summer window.

United blocked his exit though as they were left with little time to find a replacement but that could change in January when the club will get just over four weeks to shuffle their pack.

Denzel Dumfries is one name strongly admired by Ten Hag and he is a player that could be explored should United decide to strengthen at right-back.

Much has been made of Inter Milan's ongoing financial struggles so a sale could very much be viable for the Italian giants - should a suitable offer be made.

Mohammed Kudus

It's no secret that Ten Hag is a huge fan of Mohammed Kudus, who he coached during his time at Ajax.

The 22-year-old Ghanaian has taken the Champions League by storm this season, netting two thunderbolts against Rangers and Liverpool.

With United still in need of another centre-forward, Kudus could prove to be a solution given he fits their recruitment model.

He is young with high potential and can also play in multiple positions across the frontline.

Whether Ajax would be willing to do further business with United is another question altogether though following the sales of Lisandro Martinez and Antony.

Ten Hag has spoken highly of Kudus on multiple occasions including back in 2020 when he said after a 2-1 win over Eintracht Frankfurt: ""He did very well, you can see the incredible potential that that boy has. We are going to have a lot of fun with that. It can be used in several positions and that multi-functionality can help us a lot this year."

Ivan Toney

Toney is another standout name that could be of interest to United should they wish to sign another striker.

Cristiano Ronaldo could yet move on at the end of the season when his contract is due to expire - although United can trigger a one-year option within his deal.

The Brentford man has started the season like a man possessed and his rich form has now earned him a first England call-up.

United could help Toney elevate his game to the next level if they are willing to launch a bid, however, Brentford are expected to demand a premium in order to agree to a sale.

Toney's prolific goal record at every level he has played at suggests he's more than capable of stepping up to the plate.

Moussa Dembele

A cut-price option that United have monitored in the recent past is Lyon's Moussa Dembele.

The Frenchman is out of contract next summer and could therefore be available on the cheap in January.

If United want to save funds for other areas of their squad, former Celtic and Fulham Dembele could prove to be a cunning solution.

He certainly knows where the goal is and he would allow United to go big on another striker signing in the summer.

Dembele is a capable deputy who could help share out the minutes in Europe, particularly if United are playing in the Europa League again.
