A remarkable statistic, comparing the respective goalscoring records of Manchester City star Erling Haaland, and 5-time Ballon d’Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo, has come to the fore on Tuesday evening.

Norwegian sensation Haaland , of course, has positioned himself at the forefront of the media headlines once more tonight.

This comes owing to the 22-year-old’s latest haul in front of goal.

Fresh off an eye-watering 10 goals in his first six Premier League appearances, Haaland was afforded his latest start by Pep Guardiola, for Man City’s Champions League opener versus Sevilla.

And to say that the summer arrival at the Etihad went on to make his mark once more would be something of an understatement.

En route to an eventual 4-0 triumph, Haaland bagged a brace, to take his tally for the season to a whopping 12 goals across all competitions.

And such figures have since, in turn, given rise to a staggering statistic, when it comes to the greatest to ever do it in the Champions League.

Haaland’s double against Sevilla means that he has now found the net on 25 occasions in his first 20 appearances in European football’s elite club competition.

Now, compare this to the figures racked up by Cristiano Ronaldo across the same stretch in his legendary career.

CR7, of course, stands as the all-time top goalscorer in the Champions League, with 140 strikes to his name.

Bizarrely, though, his first 20 outings in the tournament did not give rise to a single one of these goals.

Could Haaland, come the close of what is no doubt set to prove an iconic career of his own, surpass Ronaldo as the greatest goalscorer in the history of European club competition?
