Martin Braithwaite - Barcelona's richest player - has agreed to terminate his contract with the Catalan side on Transfer Deadline Day.

A statement from Barcelona read: "FC Barcelona and Martin Braithwaite have reached an agreement to terminate the contract binding the player to the club until the end of the 23/24 season.

"FC Barcelona publicly expresses its gratitude to Braithwaite for his commitment and dedication and wishes him the best of fortune and every success in the future." The Dane added: "It’s been an honour to represent this club. I have always given my best for the fans and the club."

Braithwaite earned around £4million per season at the Camp Nou and, according to a 2020 report by Forbes, only Lionel Messi earned more than him at Barcelona.

Away from the pitch, Braithwaite invested $850,000 (£714,298) into the real estate business NYCE, in which he is a partner alongside his uncle, Phillip Michael. NYCE boasts a real estate portfolio believed to be worth around £210million.

Braithwaite also has his fingers in a fashion brand and a restaurant in Barcelona.

Braithwaite is expected to stay in Barcelona, and transfer-guru Fabrizio Romano has reported that Dane is undergoing a medical with Espanyol.

The report suggests Braithwaite will put pen-to-paper on a three-year deal that will see him see him turn out for Barcelona's local rivals.
