Hope Solo had a bad rap when she got arrested for driving under the influence when police saw her passed out in her car with her twin babies in the back seat last March and then went to rehab.
She went to rehab
She then took a month off and got admitted into a rehab facility where she got better and now she opened up about her experience in the Hope Solo podcast.
She mentioned that "I let alcohol get the better of me in a decision that I will never live down, a decision that has come as a great cost to me and my family."
Car running, passed out and with her kids in the backseat
The ex-USWNT goalkeeper got arrested back on March 31st after police officers discovered she was passed out behind the wheel of her car with the engine still on at an NC Walmart parking lot, and she had her two twins, Lozen and Vittorio, with her in the back seat.
Her National Soccer Hall of Fame induction ceremony had to be postponed
"I have contacted the Hall of Fame and respectfully requested a postponement of my Hall of Fame induction ceremony to 2023. I will be voluntarily entering an in-patient alcohol treatment program to address my challenges with alcohol."
She thanked the Hall of fame
She also mentioned that "At this time, my energies and focus are totally directed to my health, healing, and taking care of my family. I want to thank the Hall of Fame for their support and for understanding my decision."
Her fines were about $3100
In July she pleaded guilty to Driving While Intoxicated and the court gave her an active sentence of 30 days and a suspended sentence of 24 months, while also having to pay $2,500 in fines and also a $600 fee for the lab work.
Embarrassment compounded on top of embarrassment
She seemed embarrassment compounded on top of embarrassment mentioned that "Entering myself into treatment, awaiting the legal system, dealing with international and national headlines, canceling my attendance at the Hall of Fame induction, it," she said.
She had panic attacks
"There were many days and nights of crying uncontrollably to having my very first panic attack. The thought of leaving my family behind to fend for themselves was almost unbearable." Ultimately, however, she is grateful for the time she spent in recovery.
"Today, I am grateful for my 30 days away to read, think, pray, mediate and learn. There is no shame if we struggle with alcohol or addiction. Thank you to the beautiful men and women who taught me this."
