'Ugly' Giorgio Chiellini admits he sleeps with more women just for being a footballer

At its finest, defending is one of the most beautiful aspects of football.

However, it is not always carried out by the most beautiful, as former Juventus and Euro 2020 winning captain admitted in a recent podcast appearance. The Italian has been one of the very best defenders of the last 10 years, winning nine Serie A titles at Juventus as well as breaking English hearts at Wembley.

At 38-years-old, he has since moved across the pond to MLS giants LAFC, where he is now sharing the pitch with Gareth Bale. But while Chiellini’s defensive masterclasses were as graceful as they were strong, he admits that may be one of the only beautiful aspects about himself.

When asked if being a footballer has helped him sleep with other women, Chiellini told the Team Serie A podcast: “Look at me. Look at how ugly I am... yes."

It is not the first time the Italian has referred to himself as being ugly. The LAFC man also described himself as being “the Ugly Duckling” when he was coming through the footballing ranks as a youngster.

"I was never the best in my age group,” the central defender said in 2017. “I was like the Ugly Duckling.

“I am not beautiful to see but I always improved. That is my best skill. I am 33 but I am having my best ever season. There is no secret; just passion and work."
