Erik ten Hag equals century-old Man United record in Brentford defeat

A frankly remarkable statistic surrounding the woes being endured by Erik ten Hag early in his stint at Manchester United has come to the fore on Saturday evening.

This of course comes after the Dutchman oversaw was forced to watch on, as his side crumbled to one of their most embarrassing defeats in recent memory.

The Red Devils made the trip to London a short time ago, for a meeting with Thomas Frank’s Brentford.

The clash marked something of a must-win for the evening’s visitors, fresh off an opening day defeat at the hands of Brighton, and primed to play host to Liverpool next time out.

When all was said and done, however, efforts towards a much-needed three-point haul fell flat, in the most spectacular fashion imaginable.

This came as a rampant Brentford display ultimately culminated in a 4-0 final scoreline in the English capital.

All four goals came in the midst of jaw-dropping opening 45 minutes, as strikes from Josh Dasilva, Mathias Jensen, Ben Mee and Bryan Mbeumo found their way beyond the hapless David de Gea.

With two fixtures on the board, and two defeats to show for their efforts, Manchester United, in turn, sit dead bottom of the Premier League table.

And now, as alluded to above, the woes of new boss Erik ten Hag have been compounded ever further.

This comes owing to a statistic, highlighting just how badly the Dutch tactician’s early record at Old Trafford compares with those of managers gone by.

Remarkably, it has been revealed that Ten Hag is the first Red Devils head coach to slip to defeat in both of his first two outings with the club since John Chapman all the way back in 1921.

The same season also saw United suffer relegation from the top-flight...
