Timo Werner has shared an emotional farewell to the fans after returning to RB Leipzig after two years at Chelsea.

While the Germany international failed to impress in front of goal, scoring just 10 Premier League goals across his two seasons in 56 appearances. RB Leipzig have agreed to pay an initial £20million with £5m in add-ons - a steep decline on the £47.5m that the Blues forked out in 2020.

Reports of a fallout between the forward and Thomas Tuchel occurred over the summer after Werner demanded more first-team action. While there was reported to be a frosty relationship between the player and manager, the fans have always appreciated the German - even if he did not always perform.

"Dear Blues, today marks the end of my journey with Chelsea,” he wrote in an emotional goodbye. “I am incredibly grateful for the time I spent at this special club.

"At this point I would like to express my appreciation for my team-mate, the coaches and staff, and especially for you, the special supporters. I felt so much love and support throughout the last two years and I will never forget how you guys stood behind me in good and in challenging times!

"We lifted trophies like the Champions League together and I will always remember the song you wrote and chanted for me. I’m already looking forward to hopefully playing at Stamford Bridge again one day!”

And messages poured in from his old Chelsea team-mates, including from Callum Hudson-Odoi, who said: "Good luck bro." And Ben Chilwell replied: "Gunna miss you brother."

"All the best bro," Keep Arrizabalaga wrote while countryman Kai Havertz dropped a single heart emoji, as did Reece James. Meanwhile, Antonio Rudiger, who joined Real Madrid this summer, said: "Nothing but the best for you bro."
