Jack Grealish is being eyed for a spot on Sky's sports-based comedy gameshow A League of Their Own - with Micah Richards tipping him to show off his whit.

The Manchester City and England forward raised eyebrows earlier this year by being baffled at a map of Britain, but Richards thinks his intelligence would surprise viewers in a more positive way.

The former City man and Sky Sports pundit said: "He is just born for this show. He is hilarious and much sharper than people might think."

Richards, who has taken up a regular panelist role following the departure of show favourite Freddie Flintoff, has not wasted any time in calling for his friend to join their ranks.

The former Aston Villa duo played alongside each other on 18 occasions between 2015 and 2016, with the defender even grabbing an assist for Grealish, as he is looking to do again.

Kicking off back in 2010, the sporting panel show has enjoyed 16 seasons with James Corden hosting the first 13 before moving to America for The Late Late Show.

With Jamie Redknapp an ever-present captain, regulars have included Flintoff, Jack Whitehall, Georgie Thompson and current host Romesh Ranganathan.

With season 17 kicking off on August 18, Richards said of his new role: "I've been on A League Of Their Own a few times in the past and have always had so much fun being part of the show.

"I'm buzzing to be joining with two of my favourite people in Romesh and Jamie and am thrilled to be a regular guest panellist on the blue team throughout series seventeen.

"We've got some great challenges and stunts planned and a stack of top names joining us. I can't wait for the new series to burst onto the screen."

Despite being a regular on the new series, Richard won't be the captain of the blue team, which will be filled by temporary guests, including West Ham's Declan Rice.

Sky say: "Already confirmed to be donning the blue captain's armband are: Olympian Dame Laura Kenny, Premier League winner Kyle Walker and West Ham star Declan Rice."
