Barcelona are continuing their pursuit of Chelsea defender Azpilicueta as they prepare to launch a final push for the player, according to Spanish newspaper World Sport.

Barcelona have plans in place for the final month of the transfer market, starting with a purge of unwanted players and a reduction in the first-team squad to 25, followed by a strengthening of the full-back position.

Barcelona have locked up Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso for months, with the former being Xavi's first choice. The 32-year-old Spanish defender has the potential to play in three different positions and the player's experience is also appreciated by Xavi.

Azpilicueta also wants to leave Chelsea and join Barcelona, but the player automatically signs a contract extension until next summer after making more than 30 appearances last season, but he believes Chelsea will consider his wishes.

Chelsea have not ruled out selling Azpilicueta, but they have made financial demands on Barcelona, who will make a final push for the player, having made an initial offer of 3 million euros and now need to move up the numbers.
