Basketball legend Bird buys stake in NWSL's Gotham FC

Women's basketball legend Sue Bird has entered the world of football after buying a minority stake in NJ/NY Gotham FC. The NWSL team is currently in its second season as Gotham, having been known as Sky Blue FC prior to the 2021 season.

Bird, meanwhile, is preparing for life after basketball, having already announced that she will retire from the WNBA at the end of the current season after 19 years starring with the Seattle Storm - while she already holds a close connection to football through her relationship with USWNT idol Megan Rapinoe.

Reading sign Loum on loan

Mamadou Loum will join Reading on loan from Porto, Foot Mercato says.

After spending last year at Deportivo Alaves, the 25-year-old will spend the 2022-23 campaign with the Championship team.

Tottenham and Rennes negotiating Rodon loan deal

The Athletic reports that negotiations between Tottenham Hotspur and French club Rennes for the acquisition of Joe Rodon on a season-long loan are progressing.

Rennes will also have the option to purchase the centre back for €20 million (£16.7 million/$20.4 million) at the conclusion of the season.

The 24-year-old missed Spurs' preseason trip to Israel so he could complete a transfer to the Ligue 1 team.
