New DC United manager Wayne Rooney has reportedly ramped up the security at his family home, after he left wife Coleen and the kids behind while he jetted off for America.
Despite rumours that Rooney could take the summer off after leaving his role at Derby County, the Manchester United legend accepted the vacant managerial position at DC United. But now that he is out of the country, The Sun have reported that Rooney has heightened security on the family home due to burglary fears.
There has been a surge of burglaries in the Cheshire area, and even Rooney's house has been a target in the past as it was broken into while he was playing a testimonial game. But Rooney is said to be putting in extra effort to ensure that his wife and children remain safe in his absence.
A source confirmed to The Sun: "Wayne is acutely aware of the number of robberies that have been carried out near where he lives and of course it is a constant worry. As a result of this risk Wayne and Coleen have had security in place for a long time.
"But before he went to America, Wayne took time to make sure the very best measures are in place to ensure Coleen and the boys are safe with him not being around. A security team is paid to watch the property 24/7 and can be at Coleen's side in a matter of minutes if anything happens inside the home."

It's also been rumoured that their £20million mansion is fitted with a panic room so that the family can hide away if they are targeted. Although extra measures are now in place, Rooney's wife Coleen was against the move in the first place.
The Sun also confirmed when Rooney was linked with the job that Coleen would not be joining her husband if he went against her wishes, and feared it would cause additional strain to their marriage. But Rooney went ahead with the move anyway after she vowed not to stand in his way.
After walking away from Derby, Rooney finally had the opportunity to spend time with the family, after either playing or managing without a break ever since starting his career in football. But the chance to head back over to the United States was clearly too tempting to turn down.
Rooney signed for DC as a player in 2018, and scored 23 goals in 48 MLS matches before leaving for Derby. Rooney is determined to become a top coach, after doing a solid job at Derby despite chaos behind the scenes.
