Manchester United have suffered another blow with Frenkie de Jong’s fiancee reportedly unwilling to leave Barcelona.

United are yet to confirm the signing of midfielder De Jong despite reaching a £71.5million agreement with the La Liga club. Issues surrounding £17m worth of deferred wages and bonuses owed to the Dutchman have stalled the possibility of a move.

The 25-year-old himself is said to be keen to stay despite being told by the club that they are looking to sell him. And now United face another obstacle in securing his signature as his fiancee Mikky Kiemeney will also need more convincing, according to Sport.

The Spanish outlet claims Mikky is very happy in Barcelona after quickly adapting to the city. It is reported she doesn’t see herself leaving now, with the recently-engaged couple having made many friends and settled in well.

That could prove to be another hurdle in convincing De Jong to join the Old Trafford side. Though the central-midfielder will likely be forced out of the club regardless of his fiancee’s plans due to his mammoth wages and their precarious financial position.

To rub salt in the wounds of United's chiefs even further, Sport also claim De Jong would prefer to join several other clubs, including Chelsea and Bayern Munich, if he is pushed out of Catalonia. London and Munich are said to be far ahead of Manchester in the playmaker’s estimations.

And he is understood to hold real concerns over how 'erratic' United are with regards to the running of the club. Meanwhile, Premier League rivals Chelsea also have the edge in being able to offer him Champions League football.
