Gareth Southgate's wife has branded Alan Shearer a "pain the a**" after the all-time Premier League top goalscorer shared footage of wildfires.

Shearer had been holidaying in the Algarve, Portugal, when he shared terrifying footage of wildfires sweeping through the area. Shearer said: "This is unbelievable, I've never seen anything like this. Look at it... this is the roundabout near Gareth Southgate's house.

"Someone needs to get here quick." The blaze has engulfed forests close to Southgate's holiday home. But Southgate's wife, Alison, is said to be less than impressed with Shearer naming where their pad in Portugal is over the video.

According to The Mirror, she said of Shearer: "He's a pain in the a*** and I'll be having a word with him."

Alison has jetted out to the Iberian peninsula on Saturday, and Southgate is believed to be with her. She added: "We weren't here, we've only just got here. We're good."

The wildfires had drawn so close to their luxury home that direct neighbours were forced to evacuate in the week in fear of the blaze.

Wildfires have been ravaging the region over the past week, and firefighters rushed 100s of yards away from Southgate's home shortly after they arrived.

Five engines had lined the road leading to their house, and one was stationed on the golf course behind, as firefighters put out a small blaze.

Southgate's pad now has areas of blackened land surrounding it.

Shearer's video did help one couple, and a woman told The Mirror: "I saw Shearer's video and I realised just how bad it was.

"They were my trees on fire. It was absolutely horrific. We should not have a house standing anymore. I will be personally taking a gift to the firefighters when I arrive this week to assess the damage."

The fires around Southgate's property have died down, but a firefighter said: "We have to be constantly aware as the fires can start again so quickly with this heat and wind."
